Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala
Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala on August 2nd, 1975. BSc in Biochemistry (1999, Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG)), MSc in Food and Nutritional Sciences (2004, UVG), and PhD in Food and Nutritional Sciences (2008, University of Manitoba, Canada). In 2001, she began working at the Center for the Studies of Sensory Impairment, Aging and Metabolism (CeSSIAM), where she is conducting research on the safe and effective delivery of micronutrients, such as iron and vitamin A, to vulnerable populations, especially children and women in reproductive age. In 2008 she was appointed as Laboratory Manager at the Plant Protection Laboratory at UVG, in 2012 got promoted to Head of the MSc in Food Technology Management program and awarded the TWAS Prize for Young Scientists in Developing Countries: Guatemala. The next year, Dr. Orozco was appointed as Director of the Center for Atitlán Studies-UVG, located at the Western Highlands of Guatemala, where she currently works on water, health, local governance, and water quality assessment within Lake Atitlán’s watershed. She has published several articles on international peer-reviewed journals, participated in numerous national and international conferences, has experience as organizer of international symposiums, and formed part of local technical commissions and forums addressing Guatemala’s water security issues.
