Helmut Bethancourt has a background in Animal Science, later obtained a M.A. in Biblical Studies (Chicago, USA, 2002), and a M.Sc. in Biotechnology (ISA University, Dominican Republic, 2009). He is lead researcher in the projects: Breeding and evaluation of crossbred steers (B. taurus x B. indicus) with higher meat quality through molecular marker assited selection and Introduction of the FecB (Booroola) gene and its effect in the prolificacy and productivity of Katahdin sheep with the National Evangelical University (UNEV) and funding from FONDOCYT. He has been a consultant for the National Council for Research in Agriculture and Forestry (CONIAF) supervising master’s degree programs in veterinary medicine and agriculture. He coordinated the Program for Competitive and Sustainable Development of Dominican Bovine Cattle Farming (PROBOVINO) with the Center for Agriculture and Forestry Development, Inc. (CEDAF) from 2007 to 2014. Mr. Bethancourt is currently teaching genetic improvement and dairy and beef cattle farming at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) within the Animal Husbandry school.
