The Degree Initiative is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to build the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification geoengineering (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some of the impacts of climate change by reflecting some sunlight back into space. They are currently running a call for proposals for scientists in Central America and Mexico to model how SRM might affect the region. Grants are available for up to USD 75,000 with a deadline for applications on July 31, 2023. Eligible countries are: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Funding is available for modelling studies that research how SRM could affect any aspect of physical climate change or any climate impact.
