Colombian Focal Point recognized for contributions in quantum science
Angela Stella Camacho Beltrán, quantum physicist and Focal Point for Colombia in the IANAS Women for Science Program, has been selected as one of the 100 distinguished individuals honored by the Quantum 100, a global initiative of the UNESCO International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025).
The Quantum 100 celebrates one hundred professionals worldwide for their outstanding contributions to research, innovation, education, policy, outreach, and mentorship in quantum science and technology. This recognition reflects the diversity and excellence driving the frontiers of science. Angela Camacho on joining Quantum 100: “I feel very honored. Professor at Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, where she founded and leads the Condensed Matter Physics Research Group, Angela Camacho is internationally recognized for her pioneering research and her leadership in promoting gender equity in science. Founder of the Colombian Network of Women Scientists and an active mentor in STEM programs, her research focuses on electronic and optical properties of low-dimensional materials such as quantum dots and nanoplasmonics.
