Message reaffirms regional solidarity and the importance of scientific cooperation

In response to the powerful earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, the InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) sent a message of support to the Academia Colombiana de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales (ACCEFYN). In a letter addressed to Prof. Carlos Alberto Vargas, President of ACCEFYN, IANAS Co-Chairs Karen B. Strier and Alberto Gago expressed their solidarity with the Colombian scientific community and the populations impacted by the event, while reaffirming the network’s commitment to cooperation in disaster risk reduction and resilience-building efforts.
