Event focusing on the green transition will take place in February, in Kenya

The Royal Academy of Engineering (United Kingdom), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Alliance for Greening Skills and Opportunities (AGSO) and Jacob’s Ladder Africa, will host the Green Skills Symposium – Accelerating the green transition through skills and innovation from 11 to 13 February 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya.

The symposium will bring together policymakers, innovators, researchers, industry leaders, civil society representatives and practitioners from around the world to discuss inclusive and context-responsive strategies for developing green skills, with particular attention to the Global South, the informal economy, and the creation of pathways to decent and sustainable jobs.

Support to international participantion and partnerships

A key feature of the event is its strong commitment to enabling broad international participation and fostering new partnerships. Organizers will cover participants’ travel, accommodation and subsistence costs during the event, removing financial barriers to attendance.

In addition, successful collaborations developed through the symposium will be eligible for seed funding grants of up to £20,000 over one year, aimed at supporting the implementation of concrete, collaborative initiatives focused on green skills and innovation.

The Green Skills Symposium offers a strategic opportunity for researchers, policymakers, professionals and organizations engaged in sustainability, innovation, capacity building and green transition policies to connect internationally and translate knowledge into impact.
