A Global Stage for Scientific Excellence
The L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO have launched the call for nominations for the 2027 edition of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards, which this year will recognize excellence in Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science. Established in 1998, the prestigious programme honors outstanding women scientists whose research has significantly advanced scientific knowledge and contributed to addressing global challenges. Each year, five laureates, one from each of five major world regions, are selected by an international jury of renowned experts.
The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2026, and nominations are valid for two award cycles in this discipline, allowing unsuccessful candidates to be reconsidered in future editions. More information and access to the nomination platform are available at the official website of the prize.
Nominations are invited from scientists worldwide and must be submitted by eminent researchers, such as heads of scientific institutions, members of academies, research chair holders, full professors, or previous laureates. Self‑nominations and nominations by immediate family members are not permitted. Click here to access the rules and regulations for the 2027 L’Oréal‑UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards.

- Africa and the Arab States
- Asia and the Pacific

- Earth and environmental sciences
Each laureate will receive a €100,000 prize, recognizing her scientific leadership, the impact of her research, and her role in advancing science globally.
Promoting Women’s Leadership in Science
The L’Oréal‑UNESCO For Women in Science programme aims to advance gender equality in science by highlighting the achievements of leading women researchers and inspiring future generations. Since its inception, the initiative has supported thousands of scientists worldwide and recognized more than 140 laureates at the highest level of their careers. Beyond scientific excellence, candidates are also evaluated on their contributions to education, mentoring, and alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underscoring the broader societal role of science.
By celebrating excellence and promoting visibility, the L’Oréal‑UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards continue to play a pivotal role in strengthening women’s leadership in science and fostering inclusive scientific progress worldwide. IANAS encourages academies of sciences, universities, and research institutions across the Americas to actively identify and nominate outstanding women scientists.
