Researchers from developing countries can now apply for the TWAS-FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme, an initiative that enables outstanding early-career scientists to conduct postdoctoral research at leading institutions in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The program is jointly offered by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and supports research across a broad range of scientific disciplines.
The fellowship provides an opportunity for researchers who obtained their PhD within the past seven years to undertake research projects of up to 12 months at host institutions in São Paulo under the supervision of established scientists. Eligible fields include agricultural sciences, biological sciences, health and medical sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, earth and space sciences, as well as social and economic sciences. Researchers already residing in Brazil are not eligible to apply.
Designed to strengthen scientific capacity in developing countries, the program promotes knowledge exchange and long-term partnerships between researchers in Brazil and their counterparts across the Global South. By fostering international collaboration and advanced research training, the initiative contributes to the development of scientific networks capable of addressing regional and global challenges.
Applicants must be nationals and permanent residents of countries classified by TWAS as developing countries, hold a doctoral degree, and secure the support of a supervisor at a host institution in São Paulo. Preliminary proposals must be submitted by November 1, 2026, while the deadline for the submission of full fellowship proposals is April 1, 2027. Selected projects are expected to be announced in August 2027, with fellowships commencing shortly thereafter.
