Nearly 600 Applications Shows Strong Interest in Regional Collaboration
The InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the application phase for the Connections to Sustain Science in Latin America Symposium 2026, which will take place on August 25-27, 2026, in São Paulo, Brazil. This milestone marks the completion of the first stage in the organization of the symposium, which is jointly organized by IANAS, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
The call for applications generated an exceptionally strong response from across the region. A total of 596 applications were received from 25 countries in the Americas, with candidates representing nearly all IANAS members. This level of participation reflects the growing interest of the scientific community in strengthening regional connections and advancing science based solutions for sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Recognizing Support as the Selection Process Continues
IANAS thanks all academies, partner institutions, and colleagues who contributed to the dissemination of this call and helped broaden its reach across the continent. The symposium now moves into the selection phase, which will be conducted through a rigorous review of applicants’ curricula vitae. The evaluation process will be carried out by a committee of senior researchers, ensuring a high quality, diverse, and balanced group of participants.
