More than 80 submissions received from across the Americas

The InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) is pleased to announce the remarkable success of the 2026 edition of the video contest “Let’s Discover Female Scientists” (“Descubramos a las Científicas”). The call launched by the Women for Science (WfS) Program generated an outstanding level of participation, with more than 80 videos submitted by students from 14 countries eager to showcase the contributions of women scientists throughout the Americas. Following the verification process established in the contest guidelines, 65 submissions were confirmed as valid, having complied with all the rules, requirements, and procedures of the competition.

The strong response reflects a growing interest in highlighting the achievements of female scientists and promoting greater visibility of women’s contributions to science, technology, and innovation. Through creative audiovisual storytelling, participants will help bring to a wider audience the inspiring careers and accomplishments of women researchers who are advancing knowledge and addressing some of the region’s most pressing challenges.

Next Steps

The evaluation process is now underway. The winners of the 2026 edition of “Let’s Discover Female Scientists” will be announced no later than August 14, 2026.

For each category (14 to 18 years old; and 19 to 23 years old), an international jury composed by representatives from IANAS members will award first (USD 600) and second (USD 400) prizes. Finalists from each participating country will receive a diploma, and their videos will be published online, increasing visibility for both the students and the scientists featured.
