The InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) and its Women for Science (WfS) Program are pleased to announce that Julieta Peluso, from Argentina, has been selected as the recipient of the IANAS Young Scientist Research Award 2026. The winning nominee will be allocated USD 1,500 to spend on suitable activities related to her research work.
Julieta Peluso was nominated jointly by the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Argentina and the National Academy of Sciences of Argentina, following a national selection process that considered 56 candidates. She is an Assistant Researcher at National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) whose research focuses on aquatic ecotoxicology and the impacts of environmental contaminants on freshwater ecosystems. Using native amphibians as bioindicators, she has contributed to advancing environmental monitoring, water quality assessment, and ecosystem conservation. Click here to access her CV.
Despite being at an early stage of her career, she has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, participated in numerous research projects on environmental quality and water resources, supervised students and young researchers, and actively engaged in science communication and outreach. Her work provides valuable evidence to support environmental management and biodiversity conservation in aquatic ecosystems.
IANAS is also pleased to confer an Honorable Mention to Mildred Fabiola Corona Figueroa, from Guatemala, nominated by the Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Guatemala, in recognition of the high quality and significance of her scientific achievements.
