The publication reviews IAP’s activities throughout 2025, including initiatives in science advice, science education, leadership development, institutional capacity building, and international cooperation. It also highlights the collective contribution of academies to advancing evidence-informed policymaking and strengthening scientific institutions around the world.
One of the year’s major milestones was the IAP Triennial Conference and General Assembly, held in Cairo, Egypt, under the theme “Bridging Science, Policy and Society in an Era of Transformation”. The gathering brought together academy leaders, researchers, policymakers, and partners from around the world to discuss how science can better contribute to evidence-informed decision-making and sustainable development.
IANAS Activities Featured in the Report
Among the regional highlights featured in the report are the contributions of IANAS, which continued to advance scientific cooperation across the Americas through its thematic programs and networks. Activities covered in the report include initiatives led by the IANAS Water and Women for Science Programs. Through webinars, regional meetings, collaborative projects, and capacity-building activities, IANAS supported the exchange of knowledge among academies and scientific communities throughout the hemisphere.
The report also recognizes IANAS’s efforts to strengthen the role of science in public policy, facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue, and encourage cooperation among academies in addressing shared regional challenges. These initiatives reflect the network’s ongoing commitment to leveraging scientific knowledge in support of sustainable development and societal well-being across the Americas.
A key activity highlighted in the report was the advancement of the IANAS Amazon Initiative, including the international meeting held in Manaus, Brazil, which brought together representatives of science academies from across the Americas to discuss science-based pathways for the sustainable development of the Amazon. The discussions reinforced the importance of strengthening regional scientific cooperation and resulted in recommendations aimed at supporting biodiversity conservation, sustainable bioeconomy models, climate action, and evidence-informed policymaking for the Amazon region.
As a regional network operating within the IAP framework, IANAS contributes to a broader global effort to ensure that science remains a trusted resource for policymakers and society. The achievements presented in the report underscore the value of international scientific collaboration and the collective commitment of academies to addressing complex challenges through evidence-based solutions.
